Today I received this letter in the mail:
Dear Ms. Olson:
At its regular board meeting held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 the Palisades School Board accepted your letter of resignation from the Palisades School District as an English Teacher at the Palisades High School, effective December 21, 2011.
On behalf of the Palisades School Board, I wish to express our appreciation for your work at the Palisades School District.
Best Regards
And with that I have traded in my clean, organized classroom, lesson plans, and grading for my chaotic house, appointments and play dates, and time outs. Though I resigned before Christmas, the finality of it all makes my stomach ache.
And if one more person tells me to "enjoy every moment" I might just punch them in the gut. Really? Enjoy every moment? Is that possible? I have come to the conclusion that people forget how hard it is to have little children in your care all the live long day. And they forget how lonely it is. And they forget the mind-numbing monotony of it all.
Well, now I have oodles of time to remind them all: It's hard. It's lonely. It sometimes makes me feel crazy.

Call me when the going gets rough I'll let you cry, whine, vent and yell all you want on the phone (and if my 3 ft and under gang are acting up i'll lock myself in the bathroom so i can hear ya!) love ya!
And you thought getting pregnant was the hard part! I became a mall rat after my first just so I had something to do out of the house!
I understand. Every. Single. Bit.
I love you-
I agree and have this (http://with-child.blogspot.com/2012/01/thoughtful-thoughts-from-someone-else.html) as proof that we don't need to enjoy every moment! I hope you get a moment to read this, it changed my life and has made me less guilt about every.moment. I often wish I had a day job, but know that this is "better" somehow. :-)
So sad.
My heart is sad with you
... but I'm SO happy we get to keep talking in the middle of the day!
That's a perk!
xoox
I love you - I'm sorry you are sad.
Enjoy every moment? That's just crazy talk. No one has been crazy enough to say that to me...thank goodness! I organize a playgroup to help curb the monotony and lonely moments. It's great to vent to other mommies. My little ones are in school 5 days a week so you can always call me during nap time. :)

Remember that link I told you about? I felt the need to add it to the comment section here as it's related. Hope your friends enjoy too:

BOTH Sheelagh AND Christina reference the same blog post in their comments. If you find the time, you may want to check it out. She expresses the same sentiments I do here but much more eloquently.
Miss you. Love you. Thinking of you.
I am so sorry, my friend. Thinking of you. xox
