not feeling so grateful...

Zoey has not slept in two nights and I am wiped. We're staying with the kids of some good friends and I am afraid they are not getting much sleep either. Last night we were trying to watch American Idol when one of the girls said:

Bethany: Why is Zoey crying so much?
Me: Well, I think she is teething.
10 minutes later...
Bethany: She's still crying. How long will she be teething?
Me: About 3 years, I think.
Bethany [wide-eyed with concern (for herself or Zoey, I don't know)]: That's a long time to cry.

Yes, Bethany, 3 years is a long time to cry. A very long time, indeed.

feeling grateful...

After recently reading the blog of Brian's cousin (who may not realize how much I adore her) I felt the need to make a short list of some smaller things for which I am grateful.

Today I feel grateful for:
  • peek-a-Boo and the laughter that comes with it
  • time with my little family
  • a friend who drops by a meal when I am ill
  • 3-way calling
  • my mother-in-law and her chocolate chip cookies
  • a husband whose kind words made me cry
  • teenagers who try so hard to be good
  • people who really love Zoey
  • antibiotics
  • Zoey's bright-eyed, two-toothed smile

For what do you feel grateful today?

most days...

Most days I don't have a fever and a burning sore throat.
Most days I have energy to at least get dressed.
Most days I have no problems eating.
Most days I don't go through boxes of Kleenex.
Most days I don't have strep throat.
Today is not a "most" day.

Is anything ailing you today?

cousin maya...

Dear Maya,
Thank you for letting me come to visit you. It was so exciting to meet you! I loved sleeping in your crib (the little I did sleep) and using all your new baby gear. Thank you for sharing! I am sorry for waking you up with all my crying (this teething thing is no fun at all) and for always wanting all the attention (I'm not used to having to share my mommy). I can't wait until you are big enough to play with me!
Love, Zoey

look what I can do...

Doesn't she look so proud of herself? We've been working on this for a couple of weeks now, but when we got to NH Zoey and I were up early one morning, Melissa's ottoman was just the right height, and voila! Many falls later, I am missing my less-mobile baby girl.

more hands, please...

Zoey loves her new fishies from Mike and Christina and insists on having one in each hand. Recently, she became frustrated when she wanted a third fish and had no more hands. So, she nose-dived into her toys and came up with the third fishy in her mouth. She looked so proud of herself that I found myself in stitches. She likes to make me laugh, so she continued the process for the next 30 minutes or so.

Raw talent, I say, raw talent.
